The key to making our woodlands thrive is having a strong, efficient and profitable business and contractor base. Increased demand for home grown timber and the resulting price increases have seen forest managers and contractors take the opportunity to invest in new equipment, facilities and skills.
With interest in local food growing, non-timber forest products such as venison are also increasingly sought after by the public, restaurants, and retailers.
New harvesters and forwarders, firewood processors, and seasoning sheds are appearing in many forests and timber yards around the country. New larders and butchery rooms could provide welcome new income sources and help diversify the business interests of farms and estates.
This site is focused on business support and funding. Funding is still currently still available through some LEADER groups (area dependent). Grants for managing land, including deer management is available through Countryside Stewardship.
